Partnership with Anderson Humane

Food for Greater Elgin is partnering with Anderson Humane to support pet owners in need.

Supporting Pet Owners in Need

Food for Greater Elgin has added a new kind of nourishment to its offerings: pet supplies!

Thanks to a new partnership with Anderson Humane, our pantry is now able to provide limited food for our guests’ beloved animals, as well as the occasional leash, collar, or other pet-owning essential.

“We were connected through a board member who was adopting a pet,” explained Emily Tyler, Director of Development at FFGE. “A lot of our guests have pets and need supplies, so we met with Dean Daubert, Chief Executive Officer and President at Anderson Humane.”

Each week, FFGE picks up leftover supplies from the humane society—mostly pet food, but occasionally other items like beds or collars. The donations are included as part of the regular food pantry distribution.

“It goes really fast—if we get it on Monday, it might be gone by the next day!” said Emily.

For many of our guests, their pets are family, which can make for impossible choices.

Sometimes, our guests might prioritize paying for a pet’s food over their own,” said Emily. “We don’t want anyone to have to make that choice, if we can help it.

Have a soft spot in your heart for furry friends? We’ll happily accept any pet food or supplies! And if working with four-legged creatures is more up your alley than the two-legged kind, consider volunteering or fostering at Anderson Humane.
