Our Impact in 2025

Food for Greater Elgin's new box truck for transporting food.

In 2025, we offered food, nourishment, and hope to thousands of families in the greater Elgin area. We accomplished an incredible amount—with only eight staff members—and are profoundly grateful for the support from you, our steadfast community.

Some Highlights From 2025:

  • Individuals served: Over 145,000 (4% increase from 2024).

  • Pounds of food distributed: Over 3.1 million pounds.

  • Number of volunteer hours: Over 2,000 per month, plus many who don’t log their hours

  • 50% of our guests came only twice in the last 12 months, meaning our pantry is merely an emergency stopgap for most struggling families.

Wins to celebrate

We have overcome dozens of standard daily challenges throughout this year, as well as some unexpected ones—like finding a way to consistently feed former residents of Elgin’s largest Tent City homeless encampment after a devastating fire ravaged their community. Here are a few other major milestones we want to share with you:

  • Completed our warehouse expansion and fully paid for it.

  • Met the increasing demand for food in our community, specifically dairy products.

  • Added new partnerships that allow us to provide more wraparound services to our guests.

  • Increased the number of volunteers and companies that support us with their volunteers.

All of us have plenty to worry about these days, but one thing is certain: In challenging times, people want to help each other. Volunteering, giving, sponsoring Chip in for Hunger, buying a ticket to Pallet to Palate—in all these ways and more, you help. You consistently show up for our hungry neighbors.

From all of us at Food for Greater Elgin, thank you. You are the reason we are able to alleviate food insecurity and help stabilize lives.
